Rotary Club of Northern Yorke Peninsula Bulletin for meeting No. 2500 held 15/9/2009

  • Pt Hughes CanCare Retreat Dinner

Sadly, this was the last CanCare Retreat as after 10 years, a few with Rotary involvement, Convener, Eunice Powell and her hard working volunteers are unable to continue. The evening was certainly well conducted and our involvement acknowledged. About 50 campers were fed by Joyce Wearn and her helpers in the kitchen, with Rotarians & partners acting as waiters. The mel was top class, as usual, and the campers were kept busy piecing jigsaw puzzles given by President Peter. The buzz around the dinner tables heralded that a happy time was enjoyed by all. Tamika King from Harvest Christian School, sang a bracket of songs accompanied by Ros Woodfield. Then Anita and Gordon Woods reprised their "Court of King Caractacus" to round out the entertainment. The 20 Rotary people present enjoyed their role in the evening and Pres. Peter made special mention of Joyce & Graham Wearn and the Cancer Council helpers when he presented a cheque from the Rotary Club of NYP to Eunice at the close of the event.

  • Club Assembly on 29th September

Each board member will  give a report to this meeting followed by an open forum for all members. This is an opportunity for constructive criticism, new ideas and any other issues to be raised which are pertinent to our club's welfare. Assemblies are held on the 5th Tuesday of any month.

  • Great Australian Bike Ride - Progress Report from Rod & Richard

Training has been infrequent due to work and weather. Friday's ride was hard work due to the howling northerly - we only managed 20 kms or so! Will we make on the day? Fundraising has been kicked off with the RC of Maitland donating $150 to the ride. Flyers have been sent out to friends and local businesses. We urge Rotarians to consider donating to this fundraiser for Australian Rotary Health and perhaps recommend it to others. A raffle is being organised to add to the cause.

  • Wallaroo Probus Club's 17th Birthday

Gordon and Anita presented Pres. Peter and NYP Rotary to the Wallaroo Probus Club's 17th Birthday celebrations on Monday 14th September. They currently have 105 members in a mixed club. They are a wonderful group to be amongst. Pres. Judith Pedder welcomed us with Paul Harris Fellow Mick Rucioch & Sharon looking after us in great style. I gave club greetings and brief Rotary propaganda, which was well received. A group of artists from Modbury entertained the gathering with Broadway songs, film themes and hilarious skits for over an hour. They were superb and earned much applause. Old friends like Gray & Barb Chaplin, Graham & Pauline Banks made us so welcome - Viva Probus - Gordon.
